Wet weather continues

Well, we have had a streak of wet weather since last Saturday. Everything I planned on doing outside has been put on hold. It looks like tomorrow it will be dry enough to bring the electric tools back out and finish some projects. I have a porch I am putting on in Cedar Run. It will have a steel roof and it is nice to get steel done before we have any ice or snow. There is nothing slipperier than a wet or icy steel roof.

The dogs have not liked this rainy weather much and have spent most of their time sleeping on the couch. They run out for a bit and right back in. I am sure they will be glad for a sunny day too.

The deer have all changed colors to their winter brownish-gray coat. I have seen quite a few small deer moving around and a lot of turkey. I suspect the small ones are this year's fawns, freshly out of their spotted coats.

I haven't made any progress on my wood pile for the last few days either. I have about twenty full logs left to cut up into short pieces. Once they are shorter they will dry faster even if we don't get them all split before winter. Driving through the woods even in the rain is beautiful right now with all the color. I am sure it will even be nicer when the sun comes back. Looks like the weekend will be dry but cool with temps not getting much out of the 60's and mostly in the upper 50's for highs. The creek is up above 3...great for you experienced canoers, I would expect the water to drop to a nice level for most people to have a great time in the creek this weekend. Deer Season

According to the paper the first day of deer season was slow and not many deer brought in. The camp next to us Sunlite Gun Club, however didn't follow the rule. Michael Curcil shot the ten point buck and coyote on the first day from the same spot. He said he saw the coyote first and then the buck.
The next day Courtney Foose shot the eight point. Both bucks were heavy bodied and promise to be a lot of good eating for the work.
I will have to admit they look a little strange hung in among the Christmas lights. I am not sure Santa's Reindeer would be too happy with this decoration. I know the boys at Sunlite are happy and many a car passing by was jealous as they slowed down to take a look.
Scooter and I walked down to the camp to take this picture and he wasn't too thrilled seeing the coyote. I am not sure if he thought it would bite him or he would be next, but he was very jumpy near the hanging animals.
I have been trying to finish all my roof work before it snows too much and haven't taken the time to blog for quite a while. Now that I am done with roofs for the year, I can slow down a bit and smell the firewood burning. Mountain girl, logging off.

Free Handout

This nice buck showed up yesterday with a doe for a free handout. The cracked corn was for the birds, but it seems most of it goes to the deer this time of year.

The deer have had it easy as far as winter goes not much snow cover so they can find food easily. Some years by now they are starting to get thin and not so healthy looking, but these two look fine.

The weather is still bitterly cold and my cough is hanging on. The roads are very navigable by 4-wheel drive cars or trucks.
Snowmobiling is still out for the year although I have seen a few desperate snowmobiler's tracks if you want to spare your machine you will wait until you can travel on less than half gravel.

It promises to be a bright sunshine filled day which gives the illusion of warmth outside. My nose burns with every breath reminding me it is far from warm. It is another Leo by the fire day and a day we will easily go through a large cart of firewood.

Even with the cold and the bare trees there is something very comforting about being in Leetonia. Hope you all have a great day. Mountain girl, Paula, logging out!

Spring has Sprung in Leetonia

Spring is here!!!! Today we spotted the first Robin in the front yard. Of course it didn't stay long enough for a picture. So you are getting the picture of the deer that just completed eating the sunflower seeds I put out for the birds. They seem to know exactly when to show up. The birds are not pleased with the intruders and will sometimes dive bomb them.

The Robins seemed interested in picking up the straw on the front yard. Can they be thinking nest already. That is a very optimistic thought, considering the calender doesn't even show Spring for another week. We've had snow as late as May so they better be ready to keep the nest warm.
